Ahmad Al Kamali, president of the UAE Athletics Federation and with support from Race Director Liesa Euton, set the stage for what will become the region’s first dedicated Women’s Run. The run aims to help create positive female role models, encourage women to stay active and to discover the positive power of exercise - values that the run continues to champion for today.
With support from HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, the first women's only 5k run was held on October 22. The run, entitle-tld ’The 5k Women’s Run' was held at Al Mamzar and saw over 1000 women participating.
The UAE Athletics Federation announces the second annual run, under the new patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed. A 10k run is incorporated into the event, with Always taking on the helm of title-tl Sponsor. The ‘Always 5k Women’s Run’ took place at The Palm Jumeirah on the 11th of November, 2011, with over 3,000 entrants.
The run is renamed ‘Dubai Women’s Run’ and held on 9th November 2012, at The Palm Jumeirah.
The run has a new patron, HH Sheikh Ahmad Bin Mohammed, Chairman of the UAE National Olympic Committee; and a new home, the Meydan Racecourse.
Dubai Holding signs on to become title-tl Sponsor until 2016. The sponsorship aligned with Dubai Holding’s Corporate Wellness Programme, the first of its kind in the Middle East. Emirati distance runner and Asian gold medalist Alia Mohammed Saeed was among the top three fastest runners that year.
The sixth annual run was held on 4th November 2016 at Skydive Dubai, with over 4,000+ participants from 23 countries and the UAE, including participation from two UAE Olympians.
Plan B signs on as Strategic Partner with the UAE Athletics Federation, and takes ownership of the run. The event is scheduled for November 17th 2017, at Marasi Business Bay.
